As this day approaches, like every year, I think about what I want, and I jump right to the materialistic things on my list. Things like, new sneakers and a new book. What I forget to mention, is that there is this really important list, one that I bet you have too, one that we kind of get use to knowing we may not get but will always want. So this year, I want to acknowledge this list and let you know you are not alone and hopefully it will make you smile and know we are in this together.
List 1- The things I wish I could have and give to you-
A cleaning person- once a week and then for the midnight accidents we wake up for.
A chauffeur- for all the appointments and carpooling plus to take us out to dinner once a week.
A chef- for the 3 meals we need to make 3 times a day to meet all the needs of all of those in our house.
A masseuse- that comes to our house, and brings the spa smell too, then proceeds to get those knots out of our neck.
A teacher- to come home with our kids and help with all of the homework, the way that it is supposed to get done.
A caregiver- to watch the kids, maybe an uninterrupted movie, even if we don’t go out, so we can take a bath or just read a book!
A nail/ hair person- imagine this- someone to do your hair and nails! My husband may not recognize me without my messy bun !
A therapist- for us, to listen to all we worry about all of our fears and afford us the luxury of talking on neutral ground and feel heard.
Well, now that we all are smiling and have our perfect wish list that I CANNOT give to you or me, let’s touch on all we are and all we do. We should really remember this all. We are an amazing tribe of women, mom’s and individuals. We did not sign up for this, we don’t always know what to do, but, we do it, we do it with courage and fierce devotion and we are strong!
List 2 – The things we have and the things we are-
We have unconditional love- our kids know nothing else.
We have the ability to multitask and make it all look easy.
We have strength- not just physically, but mentally and spiritually!
We are dedicated- we know at the end of most days, that we did all we had to do and we will do it again.
We are brave- we rarely have answers and we rarely know how our day will play out, but, we do it, over and over.
We are magicians- we pull things out of our bag, our car, our head – whatever it takes to help our kids .
We are advocates- we speak whenever we have to, wherever we have to, and we don’t worry about our own fears as our kids take priority .
Momma Bears, take a moment to reread this. YOU ARE AMAZING! YOU make a difference and most of your friends that are not in this club, look at you in awe- they want you on their team because there is NO stopping you! Take a deep breath and remember that every day is not easy, but every day is worth it and I am honored to share Mother’s Day with such an incredible group of women.
Happy Mother’s Day! Here’s to us!
XO
