About

DSC_1933Here is a little about me and I  look forward to hearing from you as well.

I am a mom to 3 beautiful children, a wife to my best friend of 18 years and I love to learn!

My family relocated to Richmond in April of 09 from Long Island, NY. My husband is a pediatrician and practices in Hanover. We were afforded the opportunity to relocate to Richmond and in doing so we  have  an improved  quality of life. Mark is such a great person, a wonderful physician and a drummer in a band !

Our kids are incredible and teach me about life every day! Our daughter Ashley is almost 21, learning how to “be an adult” all while staying young at heart, she is an artist in more ways than one ! Our middle daughter Sophia, is a Freshman in High School, a lover of dance and singing and just like her father; organized, focused and says very little but gets her point across!

Our son Mark is 11 and just started Middle School, he  is our work in progress , he is on the Autistic spectrum and we work so hard to help him “be heard” while he teaches us the importance of the simple things . What a gentle loving soul he is! He sees life as we all should, innocently and honestly.

He is my reason why!

As the founder of KnowDifferent.net and a Special Needs parent myself, I am committed and passionate about the success of the site and its reach into the lives of affected families in Richmond. I am extremely confident that KnowDifferent.net will be successful and make a tremendous difference in the lives of so many families in the Richmond area and beyond. I have a tremendous passion for making sure all kids have access to community resources, no matter their disability. The website will offer things to do, and most importantly help special needs children feel “KnowDifferent.”

Although our Special Needs Kids may have different ways of getting things done, these families need to be accepted, be heard and be understood. My commitment is to do just that!

If you would like to be a guest writer for our Who’s KnowDifferent monthly piece as a parent , or your child would like to be our monthly “Who”, we want to hear from you!

If you are a business / resource  that wants to be a part of all we are doing, we want to hear from you too. Email me at any time! Carissa@knowdifferent.net
