Charcoal for Whitening?
There is a constant stream of new health and beauty products that claim to make us look or feel better. Many consumers appear to be interested in all natural products that would reduce their exposure to synthetic chemicals and have a more gentle impact on the environment. Activated charcoal is a trendy “miracle” ingredient featured in skincare products and now making it’s way into toothpaste! Sounds a little counterproductive, rubbing something black on your teeth to make them white, right? Proponents of this whitening method recommend crushing charcoal tablets and adding water to form a paste-like consistency. There are also several pre-mixed charcoal toothpastes available. Directions instruct you to apply and allow it to sit 3-5 minutes and then simply rinse the paste and stain causing toxins away. When offering my opinion on charcoal for tooth whitening, I address two important questions; will it work and is it safe?

Greater Richmond ARC Announces Respite Program Now Held at Two Locations
For the first time, “Saturday only” respite is now available this fall at Greater Richmond ARC’s 3600 Saunders Avenue location from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for $107.44 or the equivalent in waivers. This is in addition to regularly scheduled respite weekends at ARC @Camp Baker in Chesterfield for children and adults.

Commonwealth Autism’s Save The Date
SwimRVA to host USA Swimming’s TYR Pro Swim Series
SwimRVA will host the 2019 TYR Pro Swim Series, after the Richmond region successfully won a bid to be one of the event’s six host cities.
On April 10-13, 400-600 of the world’s top swimmers including USA Swimming National Team members, Junior National Team members and top 50 world ranked swimmers will compete in the meet, held at SwimRVA’s Chesterfield County facility. The TYR Pro Swim Series have proved to be an excellent training ground for Olympians and Olympic hopefuls. Olympian Katie Ledecky broke a world record in the 1500m freestyle at one of the meets in Indianapolis this year. Previous TYR Pro Swim Series events have featured athletes such as Nathan Adrian and Ryan Murphy.
