It is May? I woke up this morning after a few hours of sleep and knew I was forgetting something, but wasn’t sure what. Then it hit me. It is a new month and I did not do an opening here. Guys, this has been tough. I know I am not alone and I know some days are better than others. I have had many days of feeling like I am failing my son, I do not know how to do all of this. I keep reminding myself that it is not forever and our goal right now is to keep our family safe and healthy.
There have been days that I smile at a lesson we mastered or a walk we went on. There are moments that I have to walk away because I need to breathe. I realized in those moments, that it is nothing my son is doing, it is me, all me. It is also ok. Grace. That is what I am giving myself and asking you to as well.
These tips are what I am using to help get through this time:
- Try not to judge- yourself or others. Every day will be different and everyone may not do things the way you do them.
- Do what works for you. If pajamas everyday is it, let it be. If showering is your thing- great. Again, one day or maybe one hour at a time is all we can ask.
- Do what makes you happy. You don’t have to take on a new hobby or learn a new language, if that is not for you. If reading or coloring or binging a series, gives you some joy- do it. Feel no pressure to make this a time to learn. We are learning enough.
- Limit the time you listen to, or watch the news. It is the same thing- all day long and too much is NO good
- BREATHE and do it again.
Let’s be hopeful that by doing what we are doing, we are helping to do our part in saving lives. It is not forever and together we can do this. As we all are going through these challenging times together, our wish is that you and your families are staying safe and healthy. My wish for us all is to find ways to show kindness and compassion to one another.
May is mental health awareness month and it is important for us all to be sure we are taking care of ourselves. I will share resources for you here as well.
Mother’s Day is approaching. It may not be the day we imagined, but it can still be a day of love and laughter. Find simple things to feel celebrated. Be sure you share some of those ideas with your family, or they will not know.
