ASCV’s Sibling Squad

February 11, 2019 By Tricia Greene

Autism Society Central Virginia’s SIBLING SQUAD is a special program for brothers and sisters, ages 7 to 13, of children with special needs. This program is a great opportunity for siblings to spend time together for peer support and education in a fun and interactive setting.

This month we kicked off our first Sibling Squad of 2019 with a great group of siblings and volunteers. We played games to get to know each other and competed in a series of events in “Office Olympics”. We created Family Trees and shared them with the group. We wrapped up the morning with a game that encouraged reflection, sharing and connection around being a sibling of someone with special needs.

If you have a child in mind, ages 7-13, who you think would enjoy this program, please bring them to check it out! If you have a sibling who is older than age 13, we would love for them to participate with Sibling Squad as a volunteer! Please contact Sarah Doyle at sarah.doyle@ascv.org if you have any questions, and stay tuned for more information, including dates for upcoming Sibling Squads!
