Well, we made it to Mexico and back and the memories are tremendous. Marky was truly awesome. He loved the adventure, he adjusted to the time change, the language barrier, the lack of schedule- all of it. He was in awe on our snorkeling trip and it brought such a sense of calm for all of us. I knew he would like this, as his love of the water is so tremendous!
The most difficult part of the trip was the headaches thrown our way by the airlines, but we made it through. My husband and daughter were more frazzled by it than Marky.
Which leads me to April & Autism Awareness month. A month that is kind of bittersweet for me. I love the ability to share and strive for acceptance but I also have sadness around all that Marky, and all that are on this spectrum ride with us, have to live every day. If Marky were not on the spectrum, maybe he would have been more affected by the delays, cancellations and crud thrown our way! Why would that be good? Because, then I would know he was aware that it was all happening. Sometimes he is so easy and I feel like this thing called Autism has and continues to take my son’s ability to feel and react away. I am thankful that he is an easy and loving child, do not get me wrong, I just wish sometimes, that I could be sure he really gets all that is going on around him and for him to react with some of the more “appropriate” feelings associated. You know what I mean?
But, for now, we share, we cry , we laugh and we have this site to use as a platform to spread awareness!
We will continue to update the site with new content on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s. Be sure to check it throughout the week , there is much more content than just what is shared here. We are also on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter, we would love you to join us.
