- Did you know that fluoride stops the acid produced by bacteria (plaque) from eating away tooth enamel (the hard, shiny substance that protects teeth)? Next time you’re in our office, let’s make sure your child is getting enough fluoride for a healthy mouth!
- When choosing snacks, keep in mind that some foods like crackers or dried fruits stick to the teeth. Choose fresh fruits and veggies with nut butters, yogurts, and cheeses. Chocolate (>70%cacao) can even be a good treat because it melts away easily. Wash it all down with some good ol’ water!
- If a tooth is knocked out, rinse it under warm water, gently push it back in the socket and hold it in or place it in a cup of milk or cool water. Call us ASAP and remember to bring the tooth with you! Don’t scrub the tooth or remove attached tissue.
- Make breakfast a priority! There is evidence that young people who eat a high protein breakfast have noticeable reductions in cravings for sweets later in the day.
