Northstar Career Academy celebrated abilities at work to kick off National Disabilities Employment Awareness Month.
People with disabilities have barriers to finding competitive employment and today, we
commemorated our students and alumni and their hard work, the businesses that create jobs for a diverse workforce and governmental practices that allow for young adults with disabilities overcome barriers and contribute to their communities.
Holly Peele, director of Northstar Career Academy, and Crystal Trent, head of school at Northstar Academy along with Shishir Ingale, Northstar Career Academy graduate, and Laura Tripp from Joyner Fine Properties spoke about Shishir’s marketing internship. Sherrina Sewell, unit supervisor at Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services and Rachel Kingery from Senator Kaine’s office shared appreciation for all the partners and organizations dedicated to helping people with disabilities develop the skills they need as well as find competitive employment.
