The Safe Rideshare Program was developed as the final capstone project of an Occupational Therapy Doctoral student at VCU named Ginger Belongia. The capstone project focused on the challenges adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities face in getting around in the community, and the potential for increasing independence through the use of rideshare services like Lyft and Uber. She and her team developed a virtual program that educates these individuals on how to use rideshare apps. It was piloted at the Faison Residence and will be used as a resource to help adults with ASD and other developmental disorders get around in the community more independently by increasing their confidence in using rideshare services.
A HUGE shout out and thank you goes to Ginger and all other people who contributed to making this possible!! If you know someone who may find these resources useful, visit: https://bit.ly/2E4ASGr. We will be sharing the lesson plans and videos over the next couple of weeks on our Facebook page. Stay tuned!
