The Board of Directors of MHP just hosted their 7th Annual Uncork Hope Fundraiser on November 9, 2018.
This signature event included parents and community members across the Greater Richmond area; all of whom came out for a swanky date night out to support a great cause. This year’s event hosted more than 400 guests and featured live music and entertainment, networking, a signature cocktail provided by Belle Isle Moonshine, a hearty dinner, wine and beer, a silent auction, MHP’s own Whiskey & Wine Wall, a Kendra Scott jewelry pull and Emcee Roben Farzad.
The primary focus of Uncork Hope’s fundraising efforts each year is to raise funds in support of children with special needs and help them undergo the process of obtaining in-school accommodations. Every child deserves an opportunity to thrive, regardless of the unique challenges he or she may face. Funds raised at Uncork Hope support free Individual Education Program (IEP) advisory services for families in need who can’t otherwise afford them. An IEP is a roadmap required in a public school setting that identifies the accommodations, baseline achievements and goals for a child with special needs. The IEP process is often daunting, expensive, time-intensive and confusing for parents but their involvement is essential to a child’s academic success. MHP is the only organization in Virginia with these services available on a scholarship basis, and the majority of the funding to support this program is raised at Uncork Hope annually. MHP doesn’t ever charge a recipient family for the services provided, and they employ parents of special children themselves as this level of empathy can only be experienced by those on the same journey.
Next year’s event will be held October 25, 2019 again at the Dewey Gottwald Center in Richmond.
