I have not watched an episode of The Good Doctor. It doesn’t seem realistic to me and I just do not have any interest.
Atypical is another that many have enjoyed watching, yet, I cannot. I am not sure why, I find myself immediately feeling like it won’t be similar to the life we live- therefore it won’t be relatable and fear I will resent it all. Does anyone else relate to this ?
I watched a movie a few years ago called, “Keep The Change”. I really enjoyed it and felt it had moments that I really have lived in our world. Maybe it is that if I am going to watch something that portrays Autism, it MUST be something I can connect with. I do not want to walk away feeling sad that it is a reach for our son.
A new series is on Amazon Prime called “As We See It“. I have not watched any of it yet, but the creator, Jason Katims, also did Parenthood & Friday Night Lights. Those are 2 of m y favorite series. Jason has a 23 year old son with autism. In this series, there are three 20-something roommates who are all on the spectrum. The series shows them as they navigate the challenges of adulthood how they are working this journey toward independence, with assistance .
I have not watched this yet, but I am going to try. Our son is 19 and the struggles of independence with the hope of success are on our table. I am hoping that this may offer some insight and share some positive experiences with us.
If anyone has watched this, we’d love to hear from you. I will report back! As We See It, can be streamed on Amazon Prime.
