Most children in the Richmond and surrounding areas will be engaging in some version of virtual learning this school year. This transition is both intimidating and stressful for families, but Aveanna Healthcare is here to make your child’s school year go as smooth as possible. We have trained occupational, speech, and physical therapists that can assist with the difficult aspects of virtual learning. At Aveanna Healthcare, we are here to help you navigate these unprecedented times by providing skilled therapy services in the following ways:
Physical Therapy
- Assess school work areas to make sure they are set up ergonomically for virtual learning
- Provide home exercise programs to improve strength, coordination, and balance
- Assist with adapting P.E. or recess activities
Occupational Therapy
- Provide modifications for school work area, seating/positioning, and materials
- Assist with creating sensory diets for optimal learning
- Consult with parents, teachers, and other professionals on how to reduce distractions and adapt the learning environment
Speech Therapy
- Help with following directions required to access and engage in virtual learning curriculum
- Assist with reading comprehension and phonological awareness in order to complete virtual assignments
- Improve intelligibility when interacting with teachers and classmates virtually
- Teach pragmatic skills for in-person and virtual social interactions
Our Social Emotional PIE (Peer Interactive Experience) Program:
- Provide an outside resource for children to talk to a professional trained in social emotional well-being
- Give children the tools to help cope and self-regulate when feeling the negative effects of the pandemic
- Educate parents on how to facilitate positive social emotional skills in order to carry over during virtual and in-person interactions with peers
- Teach pragmatic skills (conversational skills, turn taking, asking/answering questions, eye contact, facial expressions, body language, personal space, etc.) and practice applying these skills in a real-life peer setting
