Life is full of ups and downs that affect our emotions in positive and negative ways. We as adults often find ourselves feeling overwhelmed and drained and depend on our coping strategies to help us get back to baseline and calm. For our children, especially those with delays and disabilities, this is a difficult skill to master and when they feel overwhelmed, they may engage in shutting down, emotional outbursts, or worse self-injury.
