FAQs
Registration
The AuSome 54-Day Challenge will kick-off on June 8th, meaning participants can begin logging their miles on that day. Participants can register anytime between now and June 30th, but the sooner you register, the sooner you can track your miles and compete against fellow participants and team members.
Registration starts at $30 and includes an AuSome 54-Day Challenge t-shirt. You can set your own goal at this level, choosing from the 5K, 18-mile, or 54-mile distance. If you are interested in a bigger challenge and a sweet finisher medal, you can register for the 54-mile, 108-mile, or 162-mile distances. Kids 12 and under can register for $15 and will receive a t-shirt and kids medal. Children 4 and under can register for free. Nuclear families of 4+ will receive a discount on registration.
Already registered for the 5K? Your registration was automatically transferred to the 54-Day Challenge–you just need to set your goal distance on June 8th!
Will we be racing August 1?
While we will not be able to race as usual on August 1st, we will still come together in a fun, meaningful, and safe way for a special celebration. Participants will receive their t-shirts and medals, and we celebrate all the miles that we will accomplish together in our special 54-day challenge for autism!
How do I set my goal?
Registrants for 54-, 108-, or 162-mile challenges have goals built for them. If you register for the Choose Your Own Distance, you can set your own goal starting June 8th. Log into your account at http://www.ascv5K.org. Sign in, access your profile by clicking the profile picture in the upper right corner, and click on the “My Registrations” button. Scroll down to find the participant. Click “Manage Registration.” Look for the blue button with “Submit Virtual Results.” On the next page, look for the box on the right marked “Goal” and enter your goal distance! It will automatically create a progress bar so you can see your progress to goal.
When can I start counting my miles?
You can log miles anytime between June 8th and July 31th! Miles prior to June 8 do not count toward the AuSome 54-Day Challenge.
How do I track miles?
Participants can use a fitness tracker, phone app, or MapMyRun in order to track purposeful miles. Any miles you run, walk, or run/walk count–outside or on a treadmill–but daily distances accumulated on your fitness tracker (like Apple watch or fitbit) don’t count. It’s your challenge, but we want you to take some time to get away from Zoom and make a purposeful effort to get your miles!
How do I log miles for the challenge?
You can log the miles into your account at http://www.ascv5K.org. Sign in, access your profile by clicking the profile picture in the upper right corner, and click on the “My Registrations” button. Scroll down to find the participant. Click “Manage Registration.” Look for the blue button with “Submit Virtual Results.” On the next page, click “Add Another Activity” to log the date, miles completed, and any notes about your activity. You can only enter one result per day, so if you plan to do multiple runs or walks, please enter the total distance for the entire day.
Can People Outside of Central Virginia Participate?
Yes! The exciting part of the challenge is that anyone can participate from anywhere. Friends and family from all over the country (or the world) can register, join your team, and rack up those miles!
What if I don’t hit my goal?
That’s okay! We won’t take away your t-shirt or medal.
