Join the ASCV on Monday, August 26, 2019 from 7-8:30pm at River Road United Methodist Church for this special workshop: “The Perfect Food Prep: Integration of the Sensory Diet into a Meal.”
Feeding challenges can be difficult for any caregiver. However, for those caregivers that deal with feeding challenges on a daily basis coupled with a child with sensory processing issues, it can feel like an uphill battle. The purpose of this presentation is to help caregivers learn to integrate basic sensory diets into the mealtime in a systematic manner that increases the chances of more productive mealtimes.
The workshop will be presented by Amaka Ozah Winslow, a Speech-Language Pathologist currently working at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU’s Feeding Program. For over 11 years she has worked with children with complex medical, oral motor, and behavioral challenges, that inhibit normal feeding development and teaches them the skills necessary to overcome these challenges to achieve their growth and nutritional goals. Diagnoses of children typically include, but are not limited to: neurological developmental disorders such as autism, chromosomal/genetic deformity, highly selective eating, gastrostomy tube dependency, sensory processing disorders, and oral motor deficits.
