Quiet or loud, it will be heard. No matter the issue or topic, saying what you need and want to say WILL make a difference.
2. Be A Support/ Advocate – everything that we do matters.
Your voice counts and there is strength in numbers. I have learned that I do NOT need to be an expert, I just need to be a voice.
3. Join Groups.
With social media, many can be joined without ever leaving your home and your input will make a difference. We have a few we have found and would be happy to share them with you.
4. Say thank you to those that help every day.
The network we have is there, we sometimes may not even realize it. Teachers, bus drivers, aides, therapists, friends, the person that held the door for you. They all do something to encourage or appreciate our child. A thank you will give a smile as well as get a smile.
5. Take a step out.
I am guilty of this one, I tend to stay home, not to do much with our son. But, when I take that risk and go out, we end up being glad we did. We should try to get our kids out in the community, find things they like to do and ways to make that happen. More and more opportunities are there that offer our children ways to be a part of things. It is a win-win for all, our kids are a gift and when others meet them, they also will see this.
We sometimes are so overwhelmed with our days and tired from all that we need to do, that we forget the impact and importance our actions can have in our community. One PTA meeting that we speak up at or one call/email to a legislator, it matters. It can make a difference. We have the tools to build a better tomorrow, we just need to use them. We may think it won’t matter or that is is not “enough”, but each step is a step and even if you feel it is may not be enough to change, it is enough to start! And, that is what we need, to start!
