My name is Jordan Clevey and I am 24 years old. I’m from Richmond, VA and graduated Trinity Episcopal School in 2010 and Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sport & Recreation Management from James Madison University in 2016. I led Young Life Capernaum in Harrisonburg/ Rockingham County for 2 years and now am a volunteer Young Life leader at Deep Run High School in Glen Allen, VA. A little over a year and a half ago I felt led to do something. I love creating and making and knew that I need to do something with that ability. I wanted to make something where we were able to sell and give back a good portion of the money we made. So that July I taught myself how to screen print by watching videos online and reading blogs on printing. I immediately fell in love with the process and loved it. I have always like to draw, doodle and design and now here I was in my parents kitchen drawing and designing a logo that meant something much greater than I could ever come up with. That is how CHERBOYS was created.
Our logo is a B inside of a C with a mountain and the word CHERBOYS underneath. The name came from my time playing lacrosse up in Michigan. A bunch of the older guys in the team always used to say the phrase “Cheboiis or Cheboys” instead of “Your boys” because there is a place in Michigan called Cheboygan. I knew that our friends would get to experience something life changing and hear life changing news that week and I wanted to do everything I could do help make sure that everyone gets the chance to know they are loved in a Christ like way and experience that love in a Christ like way. That is what camp is all about. Having one of the best weeks of your life, and there is a reason.
I started leading Young Life Capernaum in Harrisonburg/ Rockingham County in the early spring of 2015 and had and still have a heart for students with special needs. A big part of Young Life is going to camp in the summer and it is an incredible week. However sometimes camp can be expensive and leaders want there to be no financial barriers between one of our friends getting the chance to go to camp. That’s where CHERBOYS. comes in. In August of 2015 CHERBOYS. started and the mission was to provide Financial, Spiritual and Physical support to Young Life Capernaum. Financial in the money being donated to camp, spiritual in being able to talk about why this is important and being able to pray for the overall ministry of Capernaum and physical in connecting people to Capernaum and finding buddies for camp. Our goal for the year was to just raise enough money to send 1 student to camp which was $600. We surpassed that goal and were able to donate over $2,000 dollars after our first year. We love getting to come up with new designs and see people wearing our shirts all over the country, but what we care about is our friends with special needs getting to go to camp. We don’t care if we sell 100,000 shirts, we just care if students get to go to camp. A big time goal is that we get to do CHERBOYS. full time. Why? Cause who wouldn’t want to do this? We get to see students go to camp, build relationships with people and know that students lives are being changed because of the good news they will hear and experience at camp. We don’t give to get. We give to get, to give back more.
Here is one of our New Shirts! The Portable MTN. Shirt. This is a staple design of ours, and people really like it, along with the back of our First Shirt! Just an all white shirt with black ink!
50% of every purchase helps send friends with special needs to Young Life Capernaum camp. CHERBOYS. wants to connect people to a friend with special needs and help provide finanical, spiritual, and physical support through Young Life Capernaum.
Jordan also coaches lacrosse at Deep Run and work at Siewers Lumber & Millwork. He loved his time as a Capernaum leader, he got to build a lot of great friendships with those students and got to go on two Young Life Capernaum Summer Camp Trips. Some fun tidbits; his favorite pizza place to eat at is 8 1/2 Pizza off of Strawberry Street in Richmond, VA. He loves drawing, creating, designing and unrelated, mowing the grass. His favorite story teller is his dad. One big vision for CHERBOYS. is that this company will one day pay to send every single student with special needs in the U.S. to a Young Life Camp in the summer. How awesome would that be, to tell that many people that they get to go experience an incredible week and not have to pay for it at all because CHERBOYS. was able to cover it!
