May has arrived and that means for me, my journey of sharing a picture a day of our son for April’s Autism Awareness has ended. That was no easy task, funny right, all I had to do was share a picture and a thought every day for 30 days- our kids have the real struggle every day and have so little choice. I felt guilty wanting to quit and reminded that this is one of the reasons for this site- to share and be heard and have as many others also be heard in order to help our community get a glimpse into our lives. I think it is working!
This past month I spoke at an Henrico County School wide event about fitting into the community and some ideas I thought have helped me to feel a part of instead of left out. Communication is so key and I think we are doing such a great job! There is always room to grow and I look forward to doing it together.
May is always a month I look forward to, the weather is beautiful, the children are excited about the school year coming to an end with the anticipation of Summer around the corner. I know the change in schedules can be tough for many, we are hoping our calendar will serve to be a help as well.
We will continue to update the site with new content on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s. Be sure to check it throughout the week , there is much more content than just what is shared here. We are also on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter, we would love you to join us.
KnowDifferent.net is a site for all families that have to do anything differently. No matter what the diagnosis, our site will offer you a place to learn, a place to share and a place to feel KnowDifferent.
Any questions you may have, thoughts you may want to share or if you want to be a parent / child we highlight on the site; email to let us know.
With Gratitude and Commitment,
Carissa
