Medical Home Plus, MHP, is a Virginia nonprofit organization that was begun in 2001 by pediatricians Dr. Harry Gewanter and Colleen Kraft as a resource for families feeling overwhelmed with navigating the systems of care on behalf of their child(ren) with special health care needs. MHP employs parents of children with special health care needs so that the work we do is coming from a place of empathy, trust and personal experience. In addition to the Family to Family Resource Center, MHP provides direct supports to parents with respect to their child’s IEP through the use of Vicki Beatty’s expertise.
Vicki Beatty, IEP Advisor for MHP , will be giving an introduction to IEPs/Special Education Services within a Public School Setting oh March 22, 2016 from 6:30pm-8:00pm.
Vicki’s destiny and life’s passion began on March 3, 1995, with the birth of her son Davis. Within week’s Davis was diagnosed with a genetic anomaly. We knew we were going to have challenges but, first, and foremost, we had a beautiful baby who could light up a room with his smile and laugh. With appropriate services at an early age and full participation in general education classrooms, Davis has superseded all of the professionals’ expectations.
Her courage and determination have paved the way for countless parents of children with disabilities, ensuring that every parent has a voice and every child with disabilities receives a “free appropriate public education” as required by the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Vicki says: “My journey and life’s work is in dedication to my son Davis. Over the last 19 years, I have maximized my son’s life services and educational opportunities through persistent, education and the help of other parents and dedicated professionals. I believe that every child with disabilities deserves the same”.
