Teaching teens the art of mindfulness!
Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation is proud to offer Mindful Mondays for both High School and Middle School aged teens!
What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and mind/body connection.
The practice of mindfulness has proven to be helpful in handling stress. Our certified mindfulness coaches provide strategies and techniques for managing stress and being more mindful no matter your surroundings: the classroom, social situations, or the athletic field.
Who leads the sessions?
High School sessions are led by Alex Peavey, Collegiate School’s Mindfulness Director who is fully trained and certified in Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction program out of UMass.
Middle School sessions are Led by a member of the CKG Foundation’s professionally trained Mindfulness Team currently engaged in attaining full certification of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.
What can I expect?
The sessions are primarily held at the Steward School’s Bryan Innovation Lab in a calm, quiet space. We provide yoga mats to lie on, or you may sit in a chair if you prefer. Our coaches will begin by talking about the benefits of mindfulness and then will guide you through mindfulness exercises. Because mindfulness is a personal activity, don’t worry if you don’t know anyone else there!
Who can come?
All high school and middle school aged teens are welcome for this FREE program! (See specific dates for High School and Middle School ages.) You may come with a friend or by yourself, but please make sure you sign up! We hope that you will leave having met a group of encouraging peers.
