Meet Scott Huang
Scott Huang (center) is a full-time medical student who recently graduated from the College of William & Mary and will be continuing his medical studies at VCU Health System this fall. While he doesn’t yet know what type of medical practice he eventually wants to pursue, he does know that every experience he has now will help to shape that decision.
Not surprisingly, volunteer service has played a big part in Scott’s student life. As a volunteer with Lackey Free Clinic, he conducted patient eligibility screenings. As a volunteer with Jacob’s Chance, he participated in Buddy Ball, an activity that provides access to fitness opportunities for kids with disabilities. And as a counselor with AmeriKids, Scott helped to create great summer camp experiences for kids living with HIV/AIDS.
This summer, Scott has served as a Sunday check-in volunteer out at Camp Baker, welcoming arriving campers and their families and helping to make sure that their check-in process is smooth, organized, and friendly. It’s been great having Scott on the team, and he has enjoyed it as well! “As a medical student, I am reminded of the importance of serving members of the community who need it the most. No program embodies this philosophy more than Camp Baker with the ARC of Greater Richmond. I enjoy Sunday check-ins because I get to interact with eager campers ready to start one of the most fun weeks of the year.” Values-driven volunteers like Scott help ARC to create life-fulfilling opportunities for people with disabilities.
