On February 14, River City Inclusive Gymnastics hosted Hermitage High School for a field trip.
For the staff at River City, this was the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day. We had the gym set up into three obstacle courses with various activities, some harder than others. Then we divided the group into three small teams and with each team being guided by a River City coach on a particular course. After about 20 minutes the groups then rotated so that by the end the students had the chance to experience a wide variety of activities that focused on certain gymnastics skills.
Some of the class favorites appeared to be climbing over the whale mat, jumping on the trampoline, and climbing the rock wall. Some of these students were hesitant at first and more content just to observe while others jumped right in and were dripping with sweat by the water fountain by the time their field trip had ended. But regardless of the level of participation, the teachers and staff noted smiles on every face when they left the gym.
Our field trips are organized in a similar fashion to how classes are run. Students will be introduced and coached in gymnastics skills in an obstacle course format, we may play a game such as kick ball or baseball, and we will stretch.
If your school or group would like to come to River City Inclusive Gymnastics for a field trip, just call the gym at (804) 784-1990 and we can set it up.
