I am not even sure I will even try to stay up until Midnight this year but I will be sure to still have some fun! Here are some ideas for you and your family to bring in the New Year.
- Make a time capsule. Write down the memories that stand out from the year and place them in a jar or box. Each New Year’s Eve, bring out the capsule and review the moments you shared. You can be as creative as you like with this and add pictures or tokens from places you have visited, It will be a wonderful recap from the year and a way to assure you have a keepsake every year.
- Create a Year In Review sheet. Everyone in the family fills out their own and read it aloud on New Year’s Eve or Day. Questions like, What are the 3 best moments of the year, 3 worst, favorite movie , favorite subject, favorite TV show.. anything you like and then each year you will have a great resource to see how things have changed.
- Make noisemakers/ hats. It can be a fun and simple task and your kids will enjoy wearing / using the things they made. For some ideas , I found a few on Pinterest.
- Celebrate the New Year at your own time. If your kids are younger or you want to go to sleep before midnight, change the clocks and celebrate at whatever time you want! You can also do an afternoon celebration and have NOON be the “new midnight”.
- Make a small video of each of your kids to hold as a keepsake .
- Together, write down some of your wishes and hopes for the New Year. Keep it around to be sure you don’t forget them.
- Everyone get in their favorite pajamas and watch a movie that all love.
- Simple games to play- cards, simon says, puzzles- anything you all will enjoy.
- Create a hot chocolate bar on New Year’s Eve or Day and all the trimmings to ring in the new year.
