I know we all tell our loved ones what they should do for themselves, we also spend lots of time taking care of all of those around us. What do we do for ourselves? Some are better than this at others, I fall in the middle with sometimes making some effort for me, but never really a priority. So, each month, I am going to suggest a few things that we can do to take care of us! Yup- US! We deserve it, we need it and we can do it.
For March, my 5 suggestions are :
1. Be your own friend.
You are someone people look up to and admire. You take care of so many. Look at who you are and know that those qualities make you incredible. Be your own friend. Be kind to you. Hold your own hand. ( Really, try it! )
2. Be YOU .
As Dr. Seuss said so well, “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”. Don’t spend a second trying to be anyone but you, embrace who you are and love that person. There is always room for growth and change, but work with who you are, NOT someone else.
3.Learn from your mistakes.
They happen and that is ok. We can look at them, learn from them and move on. Take the lesson from the mistake and turn it into a growing experience.
4. Choose your people wisely
Time is precious, we don’t get that much of it to do what we want. Pick and choose who you want to be with. Don’t spend the one hour you have with someone who will drain your energy and kill your spirit. Either be your own friend (see #1) or find the person who will help to life you up and laugh!
5. Focus on what you have, not what you want.
We can all easily list the things we wish for, or the things we want. We often forget to think about the things we have. Today, right now, I would like you to write down 3 things you have that you are grateful for. Don’t think about it to much, just see what comes to mind. Look at it throughout the day. It will be a good reminder.
Here are mine-
-The ability to walk/run
-A husband who makes me laugh
-Good health
