FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE HOSTS RICHMOND’S ONLY COMMUNITY INCLUSION EVENT
Moving from
Awareness to Acceptance
Friendship Circle of Virginia will be hosting, “Evening of Acceptance.” Earlier this year, Friendship Circle of Virginia was proud to sponsor Richmond’s first ever Awareness Day, highlighting people in our community with disabilities and why this discussion is meaningful to all of us. This year we are taking the next step and are moving from awareness to acceptance.
Come learn about accepting and including individuals with disabilities nationally and locally through our two guest speakers.
We will have a keynote speaker: Joseph Bensmihen, MSW, RG. Amongst his many accomplishments, Joseph was instrumental in changing laws for people with disabilities in his native Canada, advocated to mainstream talented people with disabilities in corporations and is currently running for Congress in Florida. Our featured guest speaker is Matthew Shapiro, VCU graduate, local self advocate and disability consultant from 6 Wheels Consulting, who will provide us all with a deeper understanding of the disability community here in Richmond.
The event will be held on February 9 from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. at Friendship Circle of Virginia, 212 Gaskins Road, Richmond, VA 23238. Dessert reception following. Free to the community.
Friendship Circle of Virginia has been in Richmond for 4 years. It is one of 79 chapters of Friendship Circle worldwide. Friendship Circle of Virginia (FCVA) is a non profit organization that encourages companionship and social opportunities for children and individuals with disabilities by helping to create meaningful social experiences at home and throughout the community. This is accomplished by facilitating friendships and creating opportunities with teen friends and encourages understanding, acceptance, and true friendship within our communities. Creating these experiences will enable our youth to grow into leaders who appreciate the differences amongst us and embrace our similarities.
Friendship Circle is passionate about building bridges throughout our community and encourages all Richmonders to join us. Bring your friends!
