HappyNewYear!
2016 C.E. Edition
Hello, Internet. According to the Gregorian Calendar, 2015 ended last month, although the exact time of its ending depends on the time zone. The end of a year is a pretty big deal, though the associated holiday is completely inferior to Christmas, because it symbolizes an end of the old and a beginning of the new. As such, this article is about both my experiences in the past year and my plans for the new one. (Not “resolutions”, mind, because then I won’t accomplish them.)
During the first six months of last year, I was still in middle school. It was pretty boring,so I’m not going to say much about it. The most important aspect of that time was deciding what high school or specialty center I would go to; I was split between a world language center, a computer science center, and a Governor’s School. Eventually, I decided upon Deep Run’s CIT Program, where I am now.
Summer vacation was definitely the most eventful one I’ve had in years. My mom set up a petsitting job for me, which is now a major revenue stream for me. I went on a weeklong trip with my uncle and my aunt to Topsail Island, an island off the coast of North Carolina. I’d never been on an island before, and although the island was directly connected to the mainland by bridges and thus lost some of its impact, the experience was intriguing nevertheless. For the Fourth of July, I visited my aunt and my uncle in northern VA,, and at one point we went to a baseball game together. (I did not enjoy this very much.) Later, I traveled to Minnesota to visit another branch of my family. Finally, near the end of the summer, I went to a theatre camp; I had a lot of fun.
After summer, of course, I went to school. High school was a pretty big deal for me, since I had more opportunities for personal growth. I joined the school’s robotics team and am now an active member. Of course, I’ve written articles about both of these subjects, so this information can be found in the archives. Of course, I stayed in school until Winter Break, and then I left for the remainder of the year. Finally, I ended the year by watching The Martian (4.6/4.73 stars)
Now that the previous year has ended, I’ve set plans for 2016. First and foremost, I’m stockpiling funds for a school sponsored guided tour of Costa Rica that will begin sometime in 2017. Additionally, the robot that Blue Cheese created has been selected to move on to State Level FTC, and I’m part of a small task force set aside for upgrading the robot. I am specifically tasked with being one of the robot’s programmers. This is an exciting time for me. With high school just beginning and several opportunities presenting themselves to me, I can expect much from the coming year.
I’ll be sure to update
